Lotte Holdings has announced its decision to extend support for the ‘Youth Bookstore,’ a container-based reading café project aimed at promoting literacy among Air Force personnel.
The Air Force and Lotte Holdings are set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 21st at the Air Force Headquarters in Gyeryongdae. With the previous MOU from 2022 nearing expiration, both entities have agreed to continue the initiative, recognizing its positive impact on encouraging reading among service members.
Under this new agreement, the Air Force and Lotte Holdings plan to establish one to two additional Youth Bookstores at Air Force bases annually. Funded by Lotte Holdings, the Youth Bookstore project involves setting up container-based reading cafés. This initiative is designed to support reading activities for service members stationed in remote locations with limited access to cultural amenities. Since its inception in 2018, beginning with the control unit on Ulleungdo Island, the Air Force has established Youth Bookstores at 11 bases.
Air Force Chief of Staff Lee Young-soo expressed gratitude to Lotte Holdings on behalf of the service members, stating, “We deeply appreciate the donation of Youth Bookstores to our Air Force personnel who are dedicated to defending our airspace. The Air Force will continue to support various cultural activities to foster humanities skills among our service members within their barracks.”
Lotte Holdings Vice Chairman Lee Dong-woo commented, “Through the Youth Bookstore project, we are committed to participating in various support initiatives to help Air Force personnel nurture their dreams and aspirations during their military service.”
