Fugu Fish Found Mixed in “Chirimen” Sold at Supermarkets; 265 Packages Recalled by “Gyutora” at 19 Stores in Mie Prefecture

Concerns have arisen that fugu (pufferfish) has been mixed into “chirimen” (thinly sliced dried fish) sold at 19 supermarkets in Mie Prefecture, leading to a voluntary recall of 265 packages.

The affected “chirimen” was sold from May 31st to June 4th by “Gyutora,” a supermarket chain with stores in Mie Prefecture.

According to Mie Prefecture, a customer who purchased the product at the Gyutora Lovey Ichi store in Tsu City contacted the store today, reporting that “something like fugu was mixed in.”

The fish resembling fugu is approximately 8 millimeters in length, and there have been no reports of health issues so far. However, Gyutora is voluntarily recalling a total of 265 packages of “chirimen” sold at its 19 stores, suspecting that fugu may have been mixed in.

The prefecture is urging anyone who purchased the product to contact Gyutora’s service center.
