YG Entertainment’s latest sensation, BABYMONSTER, is making waves with their debut full-length album, DRIP. Following in the footsteps of K-pop powerhouses BLACKPINK and 2NE1, this seven-member group is set to redefine YG’s iconic hip-hop sound for a new generation.

Since their April debut, BABYMONSTER has quickly distinguished themselves in the crowded K-pop landscape. Their powerful vocals – a YG trademark – and unique use of handheld microphones during live performances have set them apart from other rookie groups.

The group’s recent guest appearance at 2NE1’s 15th anniversary concert catapulted them into the spotlight, with their impressive stage presence becoming an instant viral sensation.

At a press conference held Friday at YG’s Seoul headquarters, BABYMONSTER members Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami, Rora, and Chiquita reflected on their experience performing alongside YG veterans.

“It was an incredible learning opportunity and a true honor,” said vocalist Rami. “The experience has been invaluable for our growth as artists.”

Rora added, “Witnessing 2NE1 and BLACKPINK’s performances, I was in awe of their commanding stage presence and professionalism. We aspire to carry on their legacy and hope to become a group that truly connects with fans, bringing energy to every performance.”

BABYMONSTER’s nine-track album DRIP showcases two title tracks – the eponymous “DRIP” and “CLIK CLAK” – as the group aims to follow in the footsteps of their successful predecessors.

The members describe the album as a fresh take on YG’s signature hip-hop style, capturing the essence of youth culture.

“Our album embodies YG’s trademark cool, effortless simplicity,” Ahyeon explained. “We believe authentic hip-hop is about expressing our unique story, and that’s exactly what this album represents.”

The lead single “DRIP” is an EDM-infused dance track featuring exotic bass lines characteristic of YG’s sound. Notably, former YG artist G-Dragon lent his expertise to the song’s composition.

“G-Dragon’s demo was flawless,” rapper Asa shared. “We did our best to channel his iconic style and swagger in our performance.”

The second title track, “CLIK CLAK,” is a hard-hitting hip-hop anthem showcasing the group’s rap skills, another standout in the album.

The album also includes “Love, Maybe,” a guitar-driven vocal showcase; “Really Like You,” with its 90s hip-hop vibes; “BILLIONAIRE,” a bold R&B track with heavy 808 bass; the upbeat “Love In My Heart”; “Woke Up In Tokyo” (RUKA & ASA), spotlighting the Japanese members; and previously released tracks “FOREVER” and “BATTER UP (Remix)” as a bonus.

BABYMONSTER is set to embark on a world tour next year, much to the excitement of their growing international fanbase.

Rora expressed her enthusiasm about joining the ranks of successful YG artists like BLACKPINK’s Rose and Jennie, who currently dominate local music charts.

“As YG’s newest group, it would be a dream come true to see our music climb the charts,” she said.

“We’re all looking forward to our world tour. With the incredible support from our fans, we can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable concert experience. Stay tuned!”
