Netflix dropped a tantalizing teaser for the highly anticipated second season of its global phenomenon, Squid Game, on the streaming giant’s Instagram this Friday.
The gripping clip features the return of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), the first season’s champion, as contestant number 456. In a heart-pounding moment, he frantically implores fellow participants to abandon the deadly game immediately.
Amidst the mounting tension, the game’s chilling rules are announced: “You may choose to stay and continue playing to increase your potential winnings or choose to stop the games now and leave. The decision is entirely up to you.”
As Gi-hun makes his desperate plea, a skeptical participant challenges him, “Who do you think you are? You work for these guys?”
With escalating urgency, Gi-hun warns, “I’ve played these games before! If you don’t stop this, they’ll kill us all!” His dire cautions fall on deaf ears as the crowd, caught in a frenzy, begins chanting, “One more game!”
The first season of Squid Game became a cultural juggernaut, shattering Netflix’s viewing records. The series’ critical acclaim extended to its creative team, with director Hwang Dong-hyuk clinching an Emmy for his visionary direction, while Lee Jung-jae took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor.
Season 2 promises a thrilling twist as Gi-hun, despite his victory, forgoes his plans for America. Instead, he returns with a newfound purpose, setting the stage for another round of high-stakes drama.
The upcoming season sees the return of fan-favorite cast members from the inaugural season, bolstered by exciting new additions including Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Lee Jin-uk, and Choi Seung-hyun.
Mark your calendars: Squid Game Season 2 is set to premiere on December 26, with whispers of a third season already in the pipeline for next year. (Yonhap)
